A resin bonded paving is a resilient surface that resists damage and the test of time. But that doesn’t mean the surface is totally maintenance-free.

To keep your resin bonded surface looking great, you need to observe a few “best” practices whilst Resin Bound Driveway Cleaning.

These include removing dirt and other Organic materials, such as moss and weeds as soon as it occurs. Generally, sweeping a resin bound surface removes soil, sand, leaves and other debris. A stiff broom is ideal for this task, especially if the dirt is stuck to the surface.

Leaving a resin-bound or bonded surface unwashed for extended periods allows grime to settle and cause staining. This can cause the surface to lose its beauty and pose the risk of damage.

Hosing down the surface prevents the problem. Hosing down the surface with water also helps with dislodging of dirt and grime. A pressure washer is the perfect piece of equipment for Resin Bound Driveway Cleaning but you can also use a garden hose. To avoid damaging the resin, it’s recommended not to use hot water. Cold water will do but the water pressure shouldn’t exceed 150 bars.

With regular sweeping and washing, a resin surface will maintain its look and condition for a long period of time. However, other measures are necessary if staining occurs and makes the paving to look unsightly. Removing Stains and Gum Stains on resin bonded paving are a common occurrence. Staining mostly happens when you’ve allowed leaves on the resin bound surface for days on end, especially during winter and autumn. That’s because leaves contain tannins that cause discolouration. To avoid that, it’s advisable not to leave any organic matter lying around for long. Removing as soon as possible.

Resin Bound Driveway problems

The presence of chewing gum is another common problem with resin bound surfaces. To remove the gum, a scraper and freeze spray are needed. Use the freeze spray to harden the gum, then use the scraping tool to take it out. Only take care not to cause damage to the surface.

Moss on resin bound surfaces is not a major occurrence, However, some conditions will favour its growth. These include humid climate, shade and the presence of overhanging trees. Should you find moss or algae on your resin bound paving, it’s advisable to take prompt action. Applying a chemical to kill the moss will usually prevent its growth and helps maintain the look of your resin bound paving.

Removing Weeds

Resin bonded surfaces are usually treated with a weed inhibiting chemical during installation. This stops the growth of plants, but only for some time. Later, weeds may start to appear and require your immediate action.

That results from the seeds that get blown onto the surface by wind or any other means and which find a favourable environment to grow in. Weeds on a resin surface can be removed using several methods. They can be uprooted, ensuring you pull out the plant root completely.

Herbicides will also work on the plants, provided the roots do not penetrate deep into the paving. A word of caution, though. When employing chemicals to kill off weeds, avoid using them in concentrated form. You could cause the resin surface to discolour.
